Lights and candles can make your home more festive, but they can also pose a danger. Follow the tips below and enjoy the holidays!
Holiday Safety Tips for Hanukkah:
- Never leave a lit menorah unattended
- Blow out candles when you leave the room
- Station your menorah on a sturdy, non-flammable surface
- Make sure your smoke detectors are working
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets
- Keep fabric and paper away from your menorah
Holiday Safety Tips for your Christmas Tree:
- Choose a tree that is fresh with green needles
- Water your tree daily
- Place tree away from heat sources such as heaters or fireplaces
- Do not leave lights on unattended
- Do not overload electrical outlets
- Inspect lights for frayed wires before placing them on your tree
- Use lights that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory
- Do not use lit candles to decorate your tree
- Make sure tree is not blocking an exit
- Have a fire extinguisher nearby
- Always turn off your Christmas tree lights before going to bed
